A Practical Study

For the Christian there is no greater application than to learn how to live the Christian Life. Everything else we do as Believers, whether in Worship or Prayer, in Bible Study or in Ministry, depends upon this. The Principles derived from Galatians 5:16-17 show us the way to live a life pleasing to God.

We will never learn to live the Christian Life if we do not apply this first application. Trying to live the Christian life through our Old Sinful Nature is like trying to fly to the Moon with a paper plane. The Sinful Nature residing in our flesh has absolutely no power or ability to live out the Life of Christ!

Too many Christians try to live the Christian Life through sheer will power, or by their limited intellect, or by their emotions or by legalistically following the commands of God. The results at best is pride and at worst, a lifetime of frustration and defeat. We must totally abandon our efforts to live the Christian Life apart from God's Spirit residing in us.

Scripture describes the Christian who tries to live the Christian Life in his own power as a Fleshly Christian. Paul calls him an immature or baby Christian who lives just like a Non Believer, setting his eyes on worldly things and indulging in the works of the flesh. Instead, Paul exhorts us to grow and become a Spiritual Christian who sets his mind on heavenly things and lives by the Spirit of God within him.

The Initiator and Primary Agent of the Christian Life is the Spirit of Christ residing in us! He possesses all the power and ability needed to live His Life through us. Our role is simply to surrender ourselves wholly to Him and allow Him to fill our minds with His Word and our hearts with His Will. The result is a Life of Spiritual Fruitfulness! This is why God gave us His Spirit!

As we yield ourselves to Him, Christ uses us with all our uniqueness to accomplish His purpose and work on earth! As we allow Christ to live through us, we accomplish all the good works God has prepared for us to do! We begin to experience Spiritual Fruitfulness and Abundance promised by Christ ... all because we are willing to surrender our mind, heart and will to Him! Now that's an offer we shouldn't refuse!

Remember, the Christian Life is not a sprint, but a Walk ... in the Spirit. Step by step, putting one foot in front of the other, trusting Christ to Live through us each step of the way. Stop trying to forge your own path, depending on your own understanding or moved by your own emotions, and allow Christ to move you where He wants you to go! Decide to be filled with His Spirit right now by Faith!
