Lusts of the Sin Nature
The Lusts of the Sin Nature spring from insatiable cravings to fill the emptiness in our lives that can only be satisfied through an eternal love relationship with the Creator God. These lusts have been categorized into three desires in 1 John 2:16.
Lust of the Eyes ~ the insatiable desire to look, which feeds our desire to have. That new car, that new dress, that new house. This Lust also drives the fantasy images in the pornography industry and all of its unthinkable perversions, as well as the ever increasing images of graphic violence in films. Moviemakers are faced with the "principle of dimishing returns" whereby moviegoers must see ever increasing images of sex and violence to derive the same amount of excitement and pleasure!
Lusts of the Flesh ~ the insatiable desire to experience pleasure and ecstacy. This lust savors everything pleasurable to the max from comfort to eating to sex to sleeping. On the darker side, this Lust leads us to the deadly habits of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
Lust of the Ego ~ the insatiable desire to be applauded, idolized and worshipped. Let's be honest. We all want to be admired by others, even applauded by them. But this Lust drives us further ... to be elevated above and beyond others, whether in status, wealth or power. It is in disguise, a desire to be God ... the ultimate power trip! With such a goal, there is no satisfying this lust!
